Cardiff Demons are delighted to have partnered with Welsh Women’s Aid for the 2023 season.
Welsh Women’s Aid is the national charity in Wales working to end domestic abuse and all forms of violence against women. They campaign for and provide advice, support and training on policy and service improvements for survivors, families, and communities.
Welsh Women’s Aid’s federation of specialist organisations provides lifesaving services to survivors of abuse and a range of preventative services. We deliver the Live Fear Free Helpline funded by Welsh Government, and a National Training Service. The voice of the survivor is central to all we do.
The Demons will raise awareness by wearing charity shirts during their warm-up shirts before matches, as well as fundraising in support.
Club statement:
When we knew we were going to be taking part in the Challenge Cup we knew we wanted to do something that used the event to help a charity. When we sat down and discussed it, Welsh Women’s Aid jumped out as an organisation that carries the values that we try to promote.
We hope that by donating the gate from the two home games and the money raised from a shirt auction at the end of the campaign we can help them with the important work they are doing within the Welsh communities our players come from.
Welsh Women’s Aid statement:
We’d like to give a huge thank you to Cardiff Demons RFLC for choosing to partner with Welsh Women’s Aid for the 2023 Rugby League season. In raising funds and awareness, the team is helping us to challenge all violence against women and girls, domestic abuse, and sexual violence. We rely on the support of organisations like the Cardiff Demons to help to fund vital work that creates positive change that lasts in aid of survivors across Wales.
As well as being a benefit to your physical, mental and emotional health, being part of a team gives the women and girls involved a sense of belonging. Playing sport as part of a team can also offer opportunities to talk about shared life experiences, helping you to feel empowered and supported by your fellow teammates.
It’s fantastic that awareness of violence against women and girls, domestic abuse, and sexual violence is being raised at Cardiff Demons RFLC.
