Cyfannol Women’s Aid implements support for children and young people who have experienced or witnessed domestic abuse. We deliver tailored and individual pathways for children and young people that build on their strengths. Support provided is person-focused and trauma-informed. The support offered will include 1-2-1 intensive support, group work, and focus groups for children and young people aged between 5 and 18. Group work focuses on building self-esteem, communication skills, supports emotional regulation, and we also provide support around adolescent-to-parent violence (aged 11 to 16). The project will work with academic partners to evaluate the project and with children and young people to develop and facilitate training resources to professionals. Hours: Board meetings take place 6 times a year in the evening either virtually or in person in Swansea. Purpose of role: Swansea Women’s Aid (SWA), established in 1975, offers temporary accommodation and/or support to women and their children in Swansea who have suffered or are experiencing domestic violence and abuse, in all its forms. We currently have 2 refuges and a safe house. Our specialist staff work with women and children, in a number of ways, both in house and within the community, to help them recover from violence and trauma and to move forward with their lives. We also aim to educate and inform the wider public, the media, the police, etc. regarding issues related to domestic violence and abuse, with the long term aim of improving attitudes, behaviours and the social landscape, as it applies to women and children and their rights to safety. Our Trustee Board works very closely with the CEO and senior staff of the organisation to develop future strategy and to ensure good management and governance of our services. Without the oversight of the Trustees, the SWA would not be able to deliver its vital services to our beneficiaries and service users. We are looking for talented individuals to complement the skills and expertise of our existing, experienced, Board. You don’t have to be an expert in domestic violence and abuse or have trustee experience to be part of our valued team, as induction and full training is given. You may come from the professional, business or care communities.
