Our thoughts today are with the loved ones of Wenjing Lin.
We are horrified that yet another life has been taken at the hands of male violence and devastated to witness the grief of another family- we hope that following the sentencing of her murderer today, they will be able to access the holistic support that they need and be given the space to grieve.
The details of Wenjing’s murder are incredibly traumatic- that the violence was inflicted by an individual who was known to and trusted by her family is sadly all too familiar a story. Women and girls deserve to feel safe in all spaces they choose to occupy including in their homes, at their workplaces and on streets.
Wenjing was attacked in the place she lived and worked, a place where she should have enjoyed safety and been able to thrive. Male violence against women and girls is at epidemic rates across Wales and the wider UK, we estimate that at least 1 in 3 women will experience it during their lifetime. It is imperative that prevention is highly prioritised by Government and education systems, to tackle the systemic issues of a misogynistic society where such violence and abuse continues to thrive across communities in Wales.
